Jazz
Jazz ist eine Musikrichtung, die um 1900 in den USA entstanden ist und ursprünglich überwiegend von Afroamerikanern geprägt wurde. Während das Tonsystem wie auch die Instrumente zum größten Teil aus Europa stammen, sind Rhythmik und Tonbildung in der afrikanischen Musik verwurzelt. Die beherrschenden Elemente im Jazz sind vor allem Improvisation, Rhythmik sowie Tonbildung und Phrasierung, die sich von der Ausdrucksweise der abendländischen Musik unterscheiden und durch Emotionen und Individualität der einzelnen Musiker geprägt wird.
Im Laufe der Jahre haben sich – insbesondere durch Verschmelzung mit Pop- und Klassik-Elementen – viele verschiedene Jazzstile entwickelt wie z.B. New Orleans Jazz, Dixieland, Swing, Bebop, Latin Jazz, Cool Jazz, Free Jazz, Fusion, Ethno Jazz, Acid Jazz, Nu Jazz, Smooth Jazz, Jazz-Rap und viele mehr. Diese Vielfalt spiegelt sich auch in einer großen Auswahl verschiedener Jazz Radiosender wieder, die vom Traditionellen Jazz bis zum elektronisch geprägtem Nu Jazz eine große Bandbreite bieten.
